And the winner of our Thought Bubble Character Competition 2013 is…
Jim Hawkins by Jake
First of all, this design is annotated. So it was already in with a good chance before we read the details. The only thing better than annotation is a cross-section. And none of the entries had a cross-section in them.
Aside from the annotation, the drawing is great, with a fantastic design for the character. In terms of characteristics, there’s a lot here that could be used as a launchpad for anything from a series of one-page gags to an indie graphic novel.
Well done, Jake. You’ll be receiving your goodie bag prize very soon!
2nd Place Thought Bubble Character Competition
Snoopy Pupkins by Sasha Dunning
Sasha impressed the team by giving us a simple design that effectively shows off Snoopy Pupkins’ personality. He’s clearly a happy dog and he’s clearly heroic. And that floral cape. Well, the floral cape is just great.
Thought Bubble Character Competition 3rd Place
The Eyebrownator by Annis McGee was one of the first entries we received and it clearly stood the test of time, making us chuckle throughout the weekend. This is a good design that marries a mundane overall look with one standout feature - huge eyebrows - to create a very effective comedic character!
